"Beep!!" my phone's Whatsapp alert went off in the middle of a busy afternoon at work, breaking my concentration as I tried to juggle some numbers on Excel. Glancing at my phone I saw it was a message from Jiamin.

"Hello! Doing anything tonight? I'm up for a drink if you are. "

My mind switched away from my Excel spreadsheet immediately. I replied her in the affirmative and we agreed to meet at a whisky bar nearby both out workplaces. The rest of the day couldn't pass quickly enough for me...

"Cheers!" we clinked whisky glasses and grinned at each other.

"I can't believe we made this happen!" I said to her as I took a sip of Highland Park Dark Origins.

"Well, I did tell you I'm always up for whisky," she replied with a smile and a sip of Hibiki 17.

We spent the next few hours talking about our favorite whiskies, music, movies, travel spots... The list went on. I would have been happy to sit there all night until the bar closed, but unfortunately it was a school night and we both needed to work the next day.

We said goodbye to the friendly wait staff at the bar whom we had been quite chatty with throughout the night, and stepped out into the cool evening air.

"Ooh it's chilly!" Jiamin commented as she shivered involuntarily against a sudden cool breeze.

"Let's go home! It's late..." I gently guided her with a subtle hand on the small of her back which met with no resistance.

The drive home was some parts chatty, and some parts spent in comfortable silence. I was really enjoying the time spent with her, regardless of where we were or what we were doing.

Too soon we arrived at the lobby of her apartment. "Goodnight.. And thanks for today!" she smiled with that cute grin of hers that made her look a lot younger than her age.

Instinctively, I just learned over and gave her a quick but warm hug.

"Thank you for today too."

Abd she was gone.

When I got home, I texted her to see if she was okay after all the whisky we had. She said she was fine, no worries! I texted her again.

"Oh and BTW, I hope I didn't scare you with the hug. You just looked like you needed one."

To which she then replied:

"Haha. I was a little surprised indeed... But I did need a hug so thanks for that. "
